WASHINGTON D.C. SCREENING OF:
OUT IN THE SILENCE + Q&A

Opening Night: Wednesday February 2 at 7pm
At the first D.C. Human Rights Watch Film Festival

OUT IN THE SILENCE

Directed by Joe Wilson and Dean Hamer - 2010 - 66 min. - In English.

When a popular young jock is brutally bullied at his small town high school after he comes out as gay, his mother reaches out for help to the only person she feels she can trust – native son and filmmaker Joe Wilson, whose same-sex wedding announcement ignited a firestorm of controversy in the local paper. Returning home with camera in-hand, Wilson's journey dramatically illustrates the challenges that remain for LGBT people in 21st century America and the potential for building bridges on this human rights issue when people with different opinions approach one another with openness and respect.

We are delighted that filmmakers Joe Wilson, Dean Hamer and Human Rights Watch LGBT Acting Director Boris Dittrich will be present for a discussion after the screening. Presented in partnership with Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).
